Representative
Mulligan Awarding Scholarships to Local Students
January 6, 2001
Des
Plaines….Providing educational opportunities to students
of the 55th State Representative District, State Representative
Rosemary Mulligan is proud to announce the arrival of the
General Assembly Scholarship program for the upcoming year.
"The
ability to award young people with scholarships is one of
the most thrilling parts of being a representative," said
Rep. Mulligan (R-Des Plaines). "It's exciting to have the
opportunity to see so many young people interested in being
leaders and students within our state university system."
The
General Assembly Scholarship Program awards a one-year tuition-only
scholarship at the University of Illinois or any of the
other Public Universities within the state. To qualify students
must meet the following qualifications:
- Be
a resident of the 55th Representative District
- Will
be a graduating senior, or in possession of a high school
diploma or GED
- Planning
to continuing his/her education within the Illinois
State University System
- Show
evidence of good grades and leadership potential as
demonstrated by extracurricular activities
- Show
evidence of financial need, including a copy of the
first page of parents' tax form
"College
is an important first step our children take towards becoming
adults," said Mulligan. "That is why it is so important
that students take the time to acquire and fill out the
application rather then having a parent complete it for
them."
Applications
can be acquired by contacting State Representative Rosemary
Mulligans District Office at (847)297-6533 or by contacting
your High School Counselor. In addition to the application,
students much include a 250 word essay on their personal

from a teacher. The deadline for the application is March
31, 2001.
