Alliance
PAC Endorses Rosemary Mulligan for House
July 25, 2002
Des Plaines…The
Alliance Political Action Committee has endorsed State Representative
Rosemary Mulligan for State Representative in the 65th District.
As the political
arm of the Illinois Statewide School Management Alliance,
the Alliance PAC provides the opportunity for individuals
interested in education to endorse and contribute to candidates
for state offices. The Alliances PAC is the combined effort
of school boards, superintendents, principals and business
officials.
“Rosemary
Mulligan is a strong supporter of public education,”
said Daniel Meyer, Chairman of the Alliance PAC. “The
Alliance PAC feels that Rosemary is the candidate in this
race that will work the hardest for better schools. She’s
proven that over and over during her tenure in the Illinois
State House.”
“Unfunded
mandates like the recently enacted retired teacher health
insurance program significantly raises the costs of running
schools, increases costs to taxpayers, and causes layoffs
of active teachers; legislators like Rep. Mulligan are committed
to finding a solution that won’t place an unfounded
cost upon local school districts and taxpayers,” said
Joe Alesandrini, Chairman of the Alliance PAC Endorsement
Committee and Board Member at Pekin Community High School
District 303.
Though a school
funding reform bill was enacted in 1997, the measure was
not a long-term solution to the statewide school funding
problem, according to Meyer. “The question of how
best to finance our schools for the long run has not yet
been addressed,” Meyer said. “We need public
education advocates like Representative Rosemary Mulligan
in the General Assembly to continue to work on comprehensive
school funding reform and forward reliable, predictable
revenue for public schools,” Meyer said.
“Representative
Mulligan is the candidate we think will fight hardest to
guarantee public schools are adequately funded so that every
student will receive a quality education.”
Mulligan is to
face Barbara Jones of Park Ridge in the November 5th General
Election.
