State
Rep. Rosemary Mulligan Announces Candidacy
for Re-election in the 65th District
December
3, 2001
State
Representative Rosemary Mulligan, a Des Plaines Republican,
announced today her candidacy for re-election to the Illinois
House of Representatives. Mulligan was first elected in
1992 and is seeking her sixth term in the newly drawn 65th
representative district. The district encompasses much of
Mulligan's current 55th District, including nearly all of
Park Ridge and Des Plaines, Niles and Rosemont and adds
parts of Norwood Park Norridge and the City of Chicago.
"I
have been honored to represent the people of this area since
January of 1993 and look forward to meeting new constituents
in the newly drawn 65th District," said Mulligan. "I
still have many legislative goals to attain, including several
aimed at improving the lives of residents of the northwest
suburbs that I have represented for almost nine years."
Though
Mulligan's Des Plaines home was drawn out of the 65th District,
she plans to move after the general election into the new
district. According to Illinois election law, in a redistricting
year candidates from outside a district may run in any district
that incorporates any part of their original district. The
candidate then has 18 months from the time of the general
election to move into the new district.
"Redistricting
is an essential part of representative government,"
said Mulligan. "When the new legislative map was finally
approved, I made the decision to run for re-election in
the district that feels more like home to me. The new 65th
encompasses my original hometown of Park Ridge and nearly
all my adopted hometown of Des Plaines,"
Mulligan
serves as the spokesman for the House Human Services Committee
-Appropriations and is a member of the Commerce and Business
Development, Children and Youth, Elementary and Secondary
Education and Health Care Availability and Access Committees.
